Let’s meet.
Can you introduce L’Atelier Parfum in a few words?
Mikolaj Pietrzak: We are creators of emotion. In our atelier, we don’t just invite star perfumers but also artists, artisans, and creators to express emotions and create freely. It's highly sensory, joyful, colorful, and creative. We give them a light brief to encourage boldness. Then we receive submissions from perfumers, which we select blindly. It's the perfume that speaks—it’s a heartfelt choice! This stems from our initial desire to create a brand centered on emotions, but also on the beauty of raw materials and color. We wanted to offer a spectrum of fragrances to suit a soft morning mood or a more sensual evening vibe! Through our haute parfumerie brand, we favor naturality and high-quality ingredients, notably with Maison Robertet in Grasse. We wanted to offer a true alternative to traditional luxury brands and niche brands, which are often costly, with similar quality.
You’re unveiling a range of body and hair mists. How did you envision it?
Masha Russac: We wanted to address a generation that likes to change fragrances with something more affordable. These mists are derived from our iconic perfumes and feature a wide variety of scents—gourmand, fresh, and more. We wanted to create a line called “Summer in Paris,” because Paris is such an inspiring city that resonates globally. The formulas are gentle on skin and hair, thanks to added softening agents.
Mikolaj Pietrzak: It’s a high-quality product, with 98% natural-origin ingredients, which appeals to teens.
“Inclusive, accessible, and sustainable haute parfumerie”—are these the house’s values?
Masha Russac & Mikolaj Pietrzak: Absolutely!
Mikolaj Pietrzak: From the beginning, we wanted an inclusive, high-quality, and sustainable brand. This is a no-compromise project. We've taken key steps like local sourcing. We buy everything we possibly can in France or nearby Europe. We also focus on sourcing natural ingredients—hence our collaboration with the family-owned Maison Robertet, a world leader in this field.
What are the three key qualities of a good perfume?
Mikolaj Pietrzak: I love that instant feel-good effect. The brand is colorful and playful. It's easy to adopt and easy to wear. Then there’s fragrance concentration, which is super important—we’re at 18%, which is very high. This is a key requirement for our perfumers, as it ensures the scent lasts on the skin. Longevity is something customers really ask for today. Lastly, our fragrance universe is clean and timeless, which feels very modern.
You grew up in Moscow and Poland, the fragrances are made in Grasse, and we’re here in your Paris boutique. Is perfume a universal language to you?
Masha Russac: Of course—perfume speaks to everyone! But the starting point is France, with its exceptional expertise, which we wanted to share with the world.
Mikolaj Pietrzak: Yes, it's a universal language because it allows us to express ourselves olfactorily. We wear perfume to feel good—and for that reason, even during COVID, fragrance sales didn’t drop.
What do you avoid in olfactory creation?
Mikolaj Pietrzak: In our perfumes, we avoid anything unnecessary. There are no colorants or preservatives, for example. We prioritize clean formulas with the highest possible percentage of natural origin. Beyond that, everything is possible!
Masha Russac: We’re also a vegan brand, which means we’ve broken with many traditional animal-derived ingredients still used in perfumery.
