What Does the Word Patchouli Mean?
Patchouli is a plant from the Lamiaceae family, and its name comes from Tamil: “patchai” (green) and “ilai” (leaf). Known for its distinctive earthy scent, patchouli is a prized ingredient in perfumery and wellness products.

Its cultivation starts with preparing well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Patchouli cuttings are planted about 60 cm apart to allow for proper growth. The plant thrives in warm, humid climates with partial sun exposure. After 6 months to a year, the mature leaves are harvested, dried, and distilled to produce patchouli essential oil, used in perfumery.
